How to track stats for League of Legends custom games
Why stat sites don't show your custom games, and the ways to get stats for your in-house 5v5s anyway.
Why stat sites don't show custom games
Sites like OP.GG and u.gg build profiles from Riot's public match API. That API returns ranked and normal games, but not custom games. So the 5v5s your group plays in a custom lobby never show up on any profile, however many you play.
The ways to get the stats
- Tournament codes. Riot's tournament API can report custom games that were started with a code it issued. It needs an approved developer key and a lobby made from the code each time, which is a lot for a group of friends.
- A spreadsheet. Someone types in the score after each game. It works for wins and losses, and stops there: nobody types in damage, gold and vision for ten players.
- Replay files. Every replay carries the complete scoreboard for all ten players. Read the files and you have every stat of every game, with nothing typed by hand and no API key.
What is worth tracking
For a group that plays together every week, the stats that settle arguments are:
- A rating that only counts your games: who wins against this lobby, not who is ranked higher.
- Game nights: who went 3–0, the best game of the night, the records.
- Champion pools and matchups: what each player is good on, and which picks win in your lobby.
- Timelines: when the game was won, from the gold lead and the objectives.
Doing it with In-House Lab
In-House Lab reads your group's replay files and builds all of the above: nights, a group rating, player pages, draft analysis and minute-by-minute timelines. Players see it from one link without signing up.
